AIRDRIE UNITED home to Morton 15th May 2004 11-8
Sportingodds.com
As we are fully aware, Airdrie were crowned champions
last week and will be looking to sign off the season in style against
Morton.
Airdrie have been feeling the pressure over the last
few games and their recent performances have shown this with their players
looking rather nervous as they closed in on the championship. However
they managed to grind out the victory they needed last week and should
play this game with the free football the capacity crowd have come to
expect.
Morton were champions elect at Christmas but since then
have had form that has seen them all but blow a chance of promotion.
Last weeks 4-1home defeat to Stenhousemuir was their third defeat in
a row and shows how deep the rot has been. The changing room morale
has been hit by alleged allegations that some of the Morton team bet
on Airdrie to win the league and even though this has now happened,
it is difficult to see how the players can pick themselves up from the
low of last week.
The bookmakers have over-reacted to the fact that Airdrie
have nothing to play for, but Morton have needed victories in their
last three away games to keep the promotion matter in their own hands
and have lost all three (conceding 9 and scoring 1). Any team who concede
four goals at home to Stenhousemuir ( Airdrie won 3-0 away there last
month) do not deserve promotion.
Morton did beat Airdrie 6-1 in this fixture before Christmas
but leading scorer Owen Coyle did not feature. The fact that the two
teams have had so contrasting fortunes since make this fact irrelevant
and gives Airdrie a real reason to win this game and avenge this defeat.
Airdrie are the best team in the league and will be
looking to prove the point on Saturday. At the price Airdrie look great
value.

DUMBARTON at home to East Fife Evens Skybet 24th April 2004
If Dumbarton played all their games at home they would have been
promoted by now. Unfortunately that is not allowed but this weekend offers an excellent
chance to back the Son’s at home at a great value price.
Dumbarton have turned the Strathclyde Homes Stadium into a fortress
this season having won nine of their fifteen games (the same as leaders Airdrie
United). This match will be the Son’s captain Neil Collins last match of the
season after last week’s booking brought about a three-match ban. Dumbarton
will be looking to Iain Russell to continue his good record of scoring against the
Fifer’s as he has scored on the last two meetings between the clubs.
This week offers another chance for them to get maximum points against
a East Fife side who have won only one of their last thirteen games. Included in
this run was a 3-1 home defeat by Dumbarton and you must fear that relegation is
the only thing that beckons for the Fifer’s this season. The last time East
Fife played at Dumbarton was in December when the Son’s ran out comfortable
winners.
The only fear to the selection is that East Fife have more to play
for, but given the current form of both sides and the result of their recent meeting,
we feel that it is a chance well worth taking on at the price. East Fife needed
to win last week against fellow strugglers Arbroath but lost 2-1 and it does not
follow that you will win when it comes to the crunch. A more accurate saying is
that the league table does not lie and come Saturday evening Dumbarton should be
celebrating their 10th home league win of the season.
